The Dutch Plait

100_5529[1] 100_5525[1]

Today I wanted to try something new with my hair. I decided to try the dutch braid which is a pretty yet simple, more distinct and vivid version of the much loved french plait. This is easily recreated when you have mastered the skill of the french plait. The only difference is the sections of hair you add to the braid is placed underneath the middle section instead of over the top. It’s hard to explain using words but here’s a video by my favourite hair blogger, Twist Me Pretty, to show it more clearly.

Have you tried this braid before? Let me know what you think.

Long Hair, Don’t Care! (Tips & Tricks #1)

100_5066[1]

I have been quite blessed with my hair, I’m quite bigheaded when it comes to my hair. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had short hair because I know I’d regret it so much. Years of growth would be wasted! My hair is in such a healthy state lately so I thought I would share my top 3 tips to getting healthy hair! Continue reading

Review: Superdrug’s Coconut Oil

Superdrug coconut oilcoconut oil

I have heard so much about how good coconut oil is for you hair, skin, and to eat so naturally I wanted to see what the fuss was about. When I popped into Superdrug the other day I found this at only around £2 so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to experiment.

Firstly I tried this on my body. Sounds strange but I really liked how this applies onto the skin. The best way I found to equally spread the thick, hard clumps was to rub it into the palms of my hands until it is a slimy oily texture. Then it was easy to put it all over my body. After a few hours my skin felt amazing! It definitely is worth the hype for it’s softening power. The only issue I found with this as a moisturiser is that it takes a while to soak in and often makes you feel slimy and sticky for about an hour. However, once I had allowed it to merge with my skin it was fine. Having quite dry skin this worked so well in making it lovely and soft. However, I’m an impatient person so my ideal moisturisers allow me to get dressed directly after applying. I think I will probably save this for my pamper days due to the time I had to wait. I would definitely recommend using this as a moisturiser if you are patient and willing to feel a tad sticky for an hour or so after applying.

I also tried this oil on my hair. I have heard of many people using it as a mask so I thought I’d give it a go! I first washed my hair using my favourite shampoo (Herbal Essences: Silk and Shine)  and dried my hair in my towel for a few minutes. I then put this all over my hair, focussing on the ends because that’s where the dryness mostly is. A fresh towel was then wrapped around my head and then I relaxed with this in for about an hour and a half. In this time I made the most of relaxing by watching Tangled and putting on a face mask (perfect chill out combo!). I then washed it out using a small amount of the shampoo again and let it dry! This however didn’t turn out how I would’ve liked it to as it was an absolute pain to get out! After drying my hair it was clear that all the oil hadn’t come out leaving my hair sticky. It took 2 washes to get it out which has put me off using this as a hair mask. Perhaps I used too much of it or didn’t wash use enough shampoo initially when washing it out. However, the results afterwards was great! My hair looks so healthy and fluffy at the moment!

Here are the before and after results:

It’s hard to tell the difference in this picture but I was a bit silly and forgot to take a picture exactly before! Anyway, the results were good in the end (after all that effort of washing!).

My life-savers!

life savers

There is nothing worse than waking up feeling like an ugly mess. Hair all over the place, face covered by imperfections, all that you want to do is sleep for a hundred years (we’ve all been there!!).

After waking up on the wrong side of bed this morning I thought I share my top 3 pick me ups:

1. Original Source: Super Scrub Mint and Walnut-

One way of improving your mood on one of these dreaded mornings is to have a quick refreshing shower. I never feel completely awake until I’ve had a shower. I have always been a fan of original source because of their powerful scent. They are the only brand of shower gel that ACTUALLY makes you smell amazing for hours after you have showered! A while back I purchased the scrub version in this minty scent and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since (as you can see with the amount that is left)! Not only does it make your skin super soft afterwards it tingles as you apply it to your skin, waking you up instantly! I don’t think this is a feeling everyone will like but I definitely think it’s the perfect wake up call for me. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

2. Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer-

Everyone in the beauty blogging world should know about this gem! I honestly can’t explain what a saviour this product has been to me. No matter how acne is treating me I know this concealer will help me out. I use this on a daily basis on any blemishes or redness. Its thick solution means that the smallest amount can cover any areas that needs to be hidden. Also, even though it is a thick solution it never makes your makeup look or feel ‘cakey’ which is what I probably love the most! This product makes me feel so much confident when I’m feeling spotty that I often just wear this alone without foundation.

3.  Twist Hair Pins

When I’m having a bad hair day or I just don’t feel like making much of an effort these hair pins are perfect! I love the messy bun look and I never figured out how to do them before I got these. They are so much easier than using bobbles and look better as they stay hidden! This bargain find was from poundland at only £1 (Obviously!!) for 4 of them.

This look is easily created using the pins. All I did was grab all your hair as if I was going to make a pony-tail then use my other hand to ”scrunch’ the rest of my hair into a bun arranging each piece of hair into place. When satified with the structure of the bun twist the pins into the sides of the bun to keep it into place. Voila!!

If you need picking up try out these products and let me know what you think!

Do it yourself: Spring Scrunchies

Image

It’s spring time and the ducklings have arrived! What better way to celebrate the arrival of the adorable fluffballs than to reveal your inner child. Let’s go back to the past and bring back scrunchie days!

Being a big fan of crafts my mum was eager to try her hand at a new project when I had mentioned to her how expensive the cute scrunchies are from Urban Outfitters. I think it’s crazy how one bit of elastic wrapped in fabric can cost up to £6.00 when these delightful hair accessories only take my mother about half an hour to make from scratch!

Whether you’re an indie chick or a simple Susie anyone can pull off the scrunchie craze. I like to wear these on my tomboy-ish days when I need to add a touch of girliness to my look without the effort of faffing with my hair for hours. However, they can alternatively look great on a dressed up day! They look great in a high pony tail or even a messy bun.

My mum inspired me to become more creative and if she inspired you too you should try making these yourself! Follow this easy guide to create your own hair accessory and to save £££’s!
